Patient Rights & Responsibilities
Effective 1 August 2026
As a NABH-accredited hospital, RHRC is committed to treating every patient with dignity, transparency, and respect — regardless of background or ability to pay. This charter, in line with national patient-rights standards, sets out what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you in return.
Your Rights
- Respectful, dignified care regardless of caste, creed, religion, gender, disability, or economic status
- Emergency medical care and first aid treatment on priority
- Clear information about your diagnosis, treatment options, expected costs, and likely outcomes, in a language you understand
- Informed consent before any procedure, investigation, or treatment, including its risks and alternatives
- To refuse treatment or investigation, and to be informed of the likely consequences of doing so
- A second opinion, from within or outside the hospital, without it affecting your ongoing care
- Privacy during examination, procedures, and discussion of your condition
- Confidentiality of your medical information, shared only with those involved in your care unless you consent otherwise or the law requires disclosure
- Access to a copy of your own medical records and discharge summary
- Transparency in room categories, rates, and billing before and during treatment
- To have a family member or attendant present, where clinically appropriate
- Protection from physical, verbal, or financial exploitation or abuse
- Considerate care that respects your cultural and religious beliefs
- To be informed before you are involved in any clinical research, teaching, or training activity, and to decline without affecting your care
- To raise a concern or grievance, and have it addressed, without it affecting the care you receive
Your Responsibilities
- Share accurate and complete information about your health, medical history, and current medication
- Follow the treatment plan and instructions given by your care team, and ask if anything is unclear
- Inform your care team promptly if your condition changes or you decide not to follow advice given
- Treat hospital staff, other patients, and visitors with courtesy and consideration
- Respect visiting hours, ward guidelines, and instructions meant to protect infection control and patient safety
- Provide accurate information for billing and insurance or reimbursement claims, and settle bills as per hospital policy
- Care for hospital property and report any damage
- Keep appointments, or let us know as early as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel
- Accept responsibility for your decisions if you choose to refuse treatment or leave against medical advice
- Refrain from smoking, alcohol, or any prohibited substance on hospital premises
Rights of Attendants & Family
Where clinically appropriate, we recognise the role of family members and attendants in a patient's care and wellbeing, and we aim to keep them informed with the patient's consent. Attendants are asked to follow the same standards of courtesy and hospital guidelines expected of patients.
Charitable & Affordable Care
RHRC is a non-profit secondary care hospital run by the APPL Foundation. OPD registration is free every Saturday, in-patients receive a discount voucher for laboratory investigations, and patients from our free health camps receive an additional discount voucher — because the ability to pay should never stand between a patient and care.
Raising a Concern
If you feel any of these rights have not been respected, or you're unsure how a responsibility applies to your situation, please tell us — see our Grievance Redressal Policy for how to raise a concern.
